HEALTHY EATING FORUM

Welcome to my healthy eating forum for bloggers across the world to share their experiences and resources.  It provides a forum to discuss issues related to the food we eat and what we drink, recognising that we need to find ways to live healthier lives in a way that suits us as individuals and the culture within which we live.

Other issues and events in our lives often have an impact on what food and drink we consume.  Finding a way to manage this is key to living healthier and being happy with our lives.

I started this forum on 9 September 2015 (see the link below to my blog post on this date).  Nearing the end of my treatment for leukaemia, I need to focus on eating healthier.  What better way to do this than to turn to the wonderful blogging world that exists here.  I hope it will turn into something that people find helpful and will want to return to and share their experiences if they have found something through this forum that has made a difference to them.

So please feel free to share your thoughts on this topic, on issues related to living healthier, links to other blogs and websites that you find helpful, books you have read that have made a real difference, and your favourite healthy eating recipes.

Happy blogging.

Kay

  2. I thought about what would be my top 5 tips to myself on losing weight. I came up with the following:
    1. Plan meals in advance (I usually cook and eat spontaneously)
    2. Shop with a shopping list and stick to it (I never shop with a list and anything goes in the trolley)
    3. No food after 7.00pm and until 7.00am (I’ll eat snacks and sometimes late at night)
    4. Drink plenty of water throughout the whole day (I do try and I know it’s important)
    5. Exercise at least 3 times a day (it’s too easy when at home not to exercise enough)
Knowing your own pitfalls, what would be your top 5 tips to yourself?

  3. When I was setting up my Waves and Pebbles Facebook Page, it is possible to select interests to show what groups of people you would like to see your page. What was fascinating is that in the process of doing so, the numbers of people who have expressed an interest in specific things is shown.

I found it startling that 22,554,479 people expressed an interest in “Healthy Diet” against just 34,552 in “Healthy Eating”. It may be that it was their own choice of wording for their interests. However, regardless of what is behind the figures, it got me thinking about the different perceptions of “healthy eating” and “healthy diet”. Are they one and the same?

For me, “healthy diet” brings to mind trying to lose weight and implies some kind of planning of menus, whereas “healthy eating” is about having knowledge about what is healthy or not (or at least supposed to be) and eating a balanced diet which includes all the nutrients that the body requires. I believe that healthy eating is the key to losing weight, as once a diet comes into the equation the mind can become obsessed with thinking about food and wanting to eat things that are banned on “the diet”. I know that in my twenties being on different diets was a big part of my life, as it was for my friends, until I did eventually lose the weight I wanted and stayed that way for many years (through healthy eating).

I’d be interested to hear what others think.
